Living here year-round

Health care, schools, recreation and the local housing picture.

Home › Living here year-round

What does daily life look like once the visitors have gone home? The basics, with official details and hours as of October 2026.

Health care

Whistler Health Care Centre, 4380 Lorimer Rd., 604-932-4911, has emergency and urgent care, imaging, a lab and public health, run by Vancouver Coastal Health. Hours of individual services vary, so confirm before you go. In an emergency call 911.

Schools

Public schools are part of School District 48 Sea to Sky: Myrtle Philip Community School and Spring Creek Community School (elementary, the latter with French Immersion) and Whistler Secondary (English and French Immersion).

Library and recreation

Housing: the local reality

Whistler’s housing mix is unusual. The Whistler Housing Authority (WHA) oversees 988 ownership and 327 rental homes that are restricted to people who work locally. Buyers join a waitlist ranked by application date, and each home has a maximum resale price. The rules include a qualifying-employee test, living in the home full-time as a primary residence, and limits on owning other property, so these homes are not for second-home buyers or investors. WHA also has a qualified-retiree route; its exact requirements should be confirmed with the WHA directly.

Contact: WHA, 604-905-4688, whistlerhousing.ca.

Getting around and everyday costs

BC Transit fares are on the Getting there page. Parking, grocery prices and strata fees vary too much to quote here; ask for the actual figures for any property you consider.

Weather

Village averages: January high about −2°C and low about −8°C; July and August highs near 27°C and lows near 11°C.
